We had a great trip to MN to see my family! I arrived last Monday, and was surprised that evening by a shower thrown by my mom's amazing friends. Many of the people at the shower have known me for a lot of years, either through the various neighborhoods we lived in or skating. Even though they are far away, I am so glad that they can be part of this time ... a number of the ladies have literally watched me grow up. In addition to the array of gifts I received that evening at the shower, some people had selected gifts off our registry and had them sent straight to the house, which means it's been like Christmas since we got home. Our house is quickly filling up with baby gear that we have no idea how to use!
While we were in MN, our friends Jerrod and Kristi and their son, Cohen, moved into our neighborhood. We felt only a little bad that we couldn't help on moving day, but we were so excited to know they would be just down the street when we returned from our trip. Today Kristi and I went to Carter's to look for deals on baby clothes (she's pregnant, too). We found some good buys, but I discovered that buying baby clothes is no easy task. When I shop for myself, I find what I like and always select the same size. When I shop for baby, though, I have to think about size and style, and how they coincide with a particular season. For example, I couldn't buy a cute summer dress in a newborn or 12 month size because it will be winter during those periods in the baby's life. And although one item might be labeled 3 months, it can start fitting around 8 pounds, which may come well before 3 months. I realize this isn't a huge deal, and it won't kill me to use a little brain power while shopping, but it's a notable change in shopping habits nonetheless.
I need to wrap this up because you're probably getting tired (if you're still reading). But before I quit, I have one request. I'm soliciting advice on baby books. My sister and Steve both think we need one, but I was going to go the lazy route and skip it. I'm afraid I'll start the book and never revisit it to finish. So, I want to hear about what you recommend/what you used. Please refrain from promoting the all-out year-by-year scrapbook because it won't happen. Other than that, I'm totally open to your suggestions!

Oh...I cannot tell you how many times I bought the wrong size for Parker...oh you are 6 months old I will buy a 6 month outfit...only to fit for about 2 times. I finally had it down by Paige...6 months=up to 6 months. My mom now has it down by the 3rd grandchild with Peyton. My mother-in-law...well she never buys the correct size even when I give it to her.
Enjoy all of the pink stuff, bows, bloomers, and everything else that goes with a little girl!

Baby book...if you are not up for the big scarpbook...I would suggest doing one online (snapfish, shutterfly, or whatever!). They turn out great and do not take up a lot of space. I did a scrapbook with the first 2 so I am forcing myself to do it the 3rd time. I do like having a chance to put things in it...tags from the hospital, birth announecment, hair from 1st hair cut, and so on...I also enjoy having calendar pages where I can record what the baby was doing (you might be able to do that online as well). I put the page up on the frige and write down milestones as they happen.
Good luck!

Oh...the baby book dilemma... honestly...i have one for will, didn't even try with drew (i am going to make it - he'll never know) and i bought one for the soon to be 3rd baby and wrote in it once, mainly, because there weren't any showers, it is so low key and old hat by the third time through!!! I am going to try to keep writing though, as he/she arrives... one thing i have heard A LOT of people say is that they keep a journal handy and write down a the day to day stuff - not every day, just stuff they want to remember...not in complete sentences, either, so it is fast...just a quick reference that they can have and then give to their child when he/she is older. I really liked that idea - especially if you bought a larger size journal and then attached a picture here and there (no need for crafty!!) It is personal and not so scripted.
I also have everything stacked on a bed in a spare bedroom right now...next week we are doing the big room switcharound.... exciting!!!
Glad your trip went well!!! Treasure the memories!!!

You have to have a baby book, you'll be surprised that even in your busy life you have time to fill out the important things. Lauren had a calendar with stickers and I would put those on then go back and fill in the baby book. You will be glad you have one when she's bigger and wants to see it all.
Clothes.........Lauren started out smaller than the clothes for her age and then was bigger... she never wore a 3 month at 3 months or 6 at 6 and so forth. It would be nice to have a few things that are newborn for when she first comes home unless you are planning on a 9 or 10 lb baby. I know alot of info huh??
Have fun with everything!!!

Katie -
I've been going back and forth on the baby book situation myself; and I'm 99.5% sure that I am not going to do one (or two) for the girls. I really don't think that I would keep up with it, and in complete honesty, I'm not sure that they would really want it when they are older. (Perhaps I'm just cynical, though.) I think that my mom started a baby book for me...but I think I've maybe looked at it once or twice in my life.
I do, however, think that I will put together regular, "boring" photo albums in which I'll also include ultrasounds and pregnancy pics. All the other stuff I'm pretty sure that I won't ever do - but I might be able to handle developing photos and sticking them into pre-made slots.
Hope this helps??
Merry
