A Word from the Doctor

I went to the doctor today for a routine check-up, and she said everything looks great. A few key points:

-The heartbeat is still very strong - in the 160s-170s.

-My iron is low, which explains all of the recent fatigue. There is lots of iron in my prenatal vitamins, but apparently my body is calling for more. I don't really see adding extra red meat to my diet, so I'll do a little research on fruits and veggies that are high in iron.

-The cramping I've been feeling is nothing to worry about. Because of my "small frame," the doc said I'm more likely to feel lots of tugs and pulls as my body stretches to accommodate the fetus. I should only be concerned if the cramping is accompanied by blood or fever. The former may be TMI, and the latter is difficult to determine in the brutal summer heat.

-My doctor feels that perhaps I'm a candidate for pre-term labor, so she'll continue to watch and be aware of anything happening to me that might indicate such an occurrence. Who knows?! As far as I'm concerned, everything looks good today, so I'm going to go with that.

-As requested, here's a current bump watch pic. Please note: I'm aware that I need a new hairstyle. I'm open to suggestions ... please help me. As you offer your stylistic thoughts, please bear in mind that my hair is thick, curly, and tends to be totally on its own agenda at all times. Also, any comments about the fact that my a$$ appears to be growing at the same rate as my belly should be kept to yourselves. I appreciate your kind consideration in this matter.

I think you look great too! One of my first thoughts when I met you was how much I loved your hair, so I'm not a real good candidate to suggest a new one =)

You look great! I've found that pregnancy and post-pregnancy have given me this funky, stubborn wave in one part of the back of my hair. My hair stylist told me that hormones can do that sometimes... GREAT... one more thing! Sorry I don't have any suggestions - I feel in a rut myself. I'm glad that little girl is still doing well. Take care of yourself. Oh, I was also going to say that I took an iron supplement when pregnant (on advice of my doc) and if you are advised the same, it can do interesting things to your gastro system, so I found it best to be preventative - yikes! Also, raisins have a good amount of iron - I always snacked on them. Talk to you later!

You look fantastic, Katie!! By the way, I've been feeling crampish pain similar to what you've mentioned - my doctor called it "round ligament pain" and suggested a maternity support belt. I got one at Toys R Us (in the baby section, near breast feeding stuff), and it has helped - it supports and takes weight off the belly. Just an idea, or something to ask your Dr. about...
