Made With Love

Steve and I have never been ones to go overboard on Valentine's Day.  I remember one year in college we bought a $6.99 heart-shaped pizza from Papa Murphy's, cooked it in the Phi Kap basement, and ate it in Room 7.  This sort of low-key event has come to suit us over the years.  For the first time in the long time, we had a special Valentine's dinner this year, and the focus was on the love in our little family.  Instead of a meal out, fighting crowds, and the typical V-Day fare, we opted for a homemade Mexican Fiesta!

We enjoyed empanadas, quesadillas, rice, black beans, chips, salsa, and guacamole.  It was entirely too much food.
After dinner, Sara was able to open the present she'd been eye-balling.  Her new Dora movie was the favored gift.
Although we were already way too full for dessert, we indulged in the Rice Krispie treats I'd made on Sunday afternoon.
I have to add this anecdote, mostly for my memory: on Sunday evening after Sara went to sleep, I did just a little decorating in preparation for our Valentine's Day Mexican Fiesta.  I put out a few balloons, heart plates and napkins, Sara's gift, red candle sticks, etc.  When she woke up Monday morning and came into the kitchen she said, "Oh!  A party for Sara!"  Makes me smile.  I hope she'll always be my Valentine.
